About The Course

Personnel (such as but not limited to Manufacturers, suppliers, shippers, packers of lithium batteries) offers, handles or transports or causes to offer, handle or transport UN 3090, Lithium metal batteries, or UN 3480, Lithium ion batteries or UN 3091, Lithium metal batteries contained in equipment or UN 3091, Lithium metal batteries packed with equipment or UN 3481, Lithium-ion batteries contained in equipment or UN 3481, Lithium ion batteries packed with equipment; and Personnel responsible for handling and storage of cargo or mail in a warehouse, loading and unloading ULD and loading and unloading aircraft cargo compartments or personnel performing the functions of quality control/compliance monitoring activities or personnel performing the functions of Dangerous Goods Post Holder.

Course Objective

To provide participants with a thorough understanding of how dangerous goods are shipped safely by air commensurate with their responsibilities.

Course Content

1) Understanding the basics of dangerous goods

  • Recognizing dangerous goods applicability

  • Understanding the general limitations

  • Identifying roles and responsibilities

  • Understanding the importance of classification & packaging

  • Understanding hazard communication

  • Familiarizing with basic Emergency Response


2) Managing cargo pre-loading

  • Plan loading

  • Prepare load for aircraft


3) Transporting cargo/baggage

  • Load aircraft

  • Unload aircraft


4) Collecting safety data

  • Report dangerous goods accidents

  • Report dangerous goods incidents

  • Report undeclared/mis-declared dangerous goods

  • Report dangerous goods occurrences


5) The regulatory requirements to offer lithium battery for air transport

  • Definitions, shipper responsibilities, caution, training, dangerous goods security. International legislation, dangerous goods carried by passengers, variations by state and operator. Manual of Tests and Criteria, subsection 38.3.

  • UN Numbers, Class 9 substances, classification scenarios, testing.

  • List of dangerous goods and special provisions.

  • Combination packaging, quantity limits, UN specifications, overpacks, instructions.

  • Test frequency, drop test, stacking test, reports, suppliers.

  • Classification, identification, packing, marking, labeling and documentation.

  • Acceptance.

  • Emergency Response.



Duration: 3 Days (21 hours)


  • Working knowledge of English language (Read, Write, Speak)

  • Basic concepts of mathematics

Exam & Certification


    • GCAA Certificate is awarded upon successful.

    • Completion of the course and an assessment. (Passing 80%).
