About The Course

This course is recommended for 'Personnel Responsible for Accepting Passenger and Crew Baggage, Managing Aircraft Boarding Areas and other Functions Involving Direct Passenger Contact at an Airport.
A safe and efficient air transport system is dependent on a competent workforce, meaning that you must be trained in the functions for which you are responsible – whether or not this is noted in your job title. IATA recognizes that this is best achieved through a Competency Based Training and Assessment approach (CBTA). This interactive course will guide you in the tasks and responsibilities to ensure that you are competent to perform your job function and be in full compliance with the regulations. It has been designed as per IATA's DGR - section 1.5 and in accordance with function 7.5 in IATA's 'Dangerous Goods Training Guidance' .

Course Objective

Upon completion of this course you will be able to:

  • Identify and classify dangerous goods

  • Interpret hazard communication

  • Detect hidden dangerous goods in cargo and mail

  • Accept passenger and crew baggage

  • Explain the basic Emergency Response procedures

Course Content

Understanding the basics of dangerous goods

  • Understanding the basics of dangerous goods

  • Recognizing dangerous goods

  • Identifying forbidden and hidden dangerous goods

  • Apply operator’s requirements in acceptance of baggage

  • Report dangerous goods incidents and undeclared dangerous goods


  • Working knowledge of English language (Read, Write, Speak)

  • Basic concepts of mathematics

Exam & Certification


    • An IATA + GCAA Certificate is awarded upon successful.

    • Completion of the course and an assessment. (Passing 80%).
