Introduction

Health and Safety in the Workplace is aimed at all employees. It is intended for learners already in workplaces and those who are preparing to start or return to work. It is also very useful for young persons to raise their ability to identify and understand hazards when preparing for work experience. Persons gaining this qualification will know that health and safety is the responsibility.


Course Aim

To provide the health and safety knowledge and awareness of all delegates. This course will provide the foundations of risk assessment and control strategies; the integration of environmental management into business activities and a detail understanding of hazards found in most workplaces.


Objective

Delegates will be able to understand the principles of health and safety and to apply that knowledge to reduce the risk of injury to themselves and others including:

  • Familiarize the trainees with health and safety practices and standards at work
  • Introduce human factors that can affect health and safety at work
  • Brief the trainees with legal aspect of health and safety at work
  • Understand the importance of occupational health practices
  • Describe the common cause of fire and give example of preventive measures
  • State the required action in case of fire including evacuation procedure.
  • Outline the welfare facilities and the associated risk.
  • State the main effects of work related stress and how it can be reduce
  • Importance of good workplace design, maintenance and housekeeping
  • Types of injuries that caused by poor workstation design

Learning Outcomes: This training enables staff to acquire the skills and knowledge that, with experience, make them competent in the health and safety aspects of their work. This course will highlight the importance of working safely, ensuring that delegate's actions contribute to the safety of their organization and that individual responsibilities are clearly understood.

Course Duration:

4 Days

Certification of attendance.

Assessment: Delegates are assessed throughout the course by instructor observation of the essential skills. There is also a summative assessment of knowledge and skills at the end of this course.

Number of students per course: Maximum 12 Students per course.

Day - 1

  • Introduction to HSE and the welfare
  • Understand roles and responsibilities
  • Health and safety law and legal aspects
  • Fundamental Safety Rules (Relevant Legislation)
  • The importance of Health and Safety
  • Personal safety and safety culture and human behavior
  • Human factors that can affect health and safety at work
  • Common causes and factors of accidents and ill health


Day - 2

  • Define the terms ‘Hazard’, ‘Risk’, and 'Risk Assessment"
  • Risk assessment and control measures
  • Identify and control the risks from common workplace hazards
  • Describe the principle of the risk control hierarchy
  • Safe system of work
  • Permit to work system
  • Safety signage and symbols
  • Work place equipment
  • Workplace design and ergonomics
  • Stress at work and how to reduce it?


Day - 3

  • Working around and aircraft and general hazards
  • Outline safe practices when on the ramp
  • Hazards working around an aircraft and personal safety
  • Air/ramp vehicles and equipment and hand signals
  • Foreign object damage prevention.
  • Identify hazards involved when working with aircraft
  • Fueling related hazards and prevention strategies
  • Causes of accidents, mishaps and injuries


Day - 4

  • Accident and incident reporting
  • Basic first-aid and first-aid management procedure
  • Understanding fire and fire-fighting equipment
  • Different types of workplace emergencies
  • Fire drill and evacuation procedure
  • Emergency management procedure
